Logan Lesbians unite
The Logan Lesbian Art & Storytelling Collective started as a creative initiative designed to bring Logan lesbians together through visual art and personal storytelling. Over seven meetups, we provided a safe, affirming space for all lesbians to connect, create, and share their experiences.
Each session combined personal storytelling with collaborative art-making — ranging from mannequin sculptures and woven pride tapestries to expressive self-portraits and murals of chosen family, resilience, and joy. We included mini interviews, shared personal stories and recorded moments of real connection throughout the series
The work we created together will now be displayed in an exciting, interactive multimedia exhibition at the Loud and Proud Logan festival on 11 October.
“This has been such a powerful experience. I got so much more out of it than I ever expected. It was inspiring, cathartic, transformative, and healing.”
“I’ve often struggled to feel a sense of connection within the queer community here in Logan, and it was such a pleasant surprise to feel that sense of belonging. That in itself was healing.”
“I found the workshops incredibly empowering and enjoyable. Even though I don’t usually consider myself an “artsy” person, I loved the process of exploring different mediums. What stood out to me most, though, was the sense of connection, belonging, and unity that emerged within the group.”

Join the collective
1. Join the Lesbian Art & Storytelling Collective meetups
Join Logan’s first lesbian creative network! Lesbian voices are diverse and your stories are an important part of LGBTQIA+ history. We want to you to get involved!
Join us for one or all of the social workshops, meet other like-minded lesbians and create something beautiful together.
Note, that while our initial workshops were funded by Lesbians Incorporated, we are currently seeking funding to continue this series.
Until then, we need to charge a small fee to participate – to cover venue hire, arts materials and catering. Our goal is to keep this fee to a minimum, but if the price is prohibitive to you – please reach out, we don’t want you to miss out if you can’t afford it.
Email pres@assortedgrains.org.au and we’ll get back to you.
2. Connect and create
While the formal workshop series has ended, the group are keen to continue meeting and creating together.
If you’d like to join us for a coffee and create session, keep an eye out for an upcoming event near you.
4. FAQs
1. Do I have to be arty to join?
Woah, you might love the idea of hanging out with like-minded queer folk, but hang on. You’re not arty…. right?
Don’t worry. It’s like a paint and sip – where our expert facilitators will guide you through each activity with prompts and step by step instructions.
These groups are not about creative perfection – it’s about connection.
You’ve got nothing to lose by coming and hanging out with us.
2. What do I need to bring?
Bring a creative or crafty project, a sketchbook or whatever you like to join and work on while we connect.
3. What does it cost? And can I just come to one? Or do I have to join them all?
Accessibility is so important to us. For this reason, we’ve tried to keep costs small for these meetup. If you’re in a pinch and can’t afford to come along – please let us know by emailing pres@assortedgrains.org.au. We don’t want anyone to miss out.
Got your eye on one of the workshops – but don’t like another? That’s fine. Join us for just one or all of the workshops, but don’t forget to register to save your seat.
4. Are the workshops disability friendly?
Yes! We’ll always choose a location with accessible car parking and facilities available. If you have another specific requirement to join let us know.
